Quests for this dungeon

[45D] Scarab Shells
Given by Tran'rek in Tanaris. It's a collection quest. You have to collect 5 Uncracked Scarab Shells from the scarebs inside the dungeon. You will finish this one while you go. There is a optional pre-requisite quest [45] Tran'rek you can pickup in Booty Bay for some extra exp if you like.
[45D] Troll Temper
Given by Trenton Lighthammer in Tanaris. For this one you need to collect 20 Troll Tempers that drop of any troll inside the instance. Do this one while your going. Easy quest.
[45D] The Spider God
Given by Master Gadrin in Durotar. All you have to do is read a tablet that's located in the area with all the scarabs. But there are a couple of pre-requisites and this is also not the last quest in the chain.
To get the quest you have to complete the following quest chain:
  1. In the Hinterlands go to Hiri'watha ruins at 32,58. On a table that's full of bottles you'll find a Venom Bottle witch starts the first quest [43] Venom Bottles;
  2. Take this bottle to Apothecary Lydon in Hillsbrad Foothills, Tarren Mill and get the followup [45] Undamaged Venom Sac;
  3. Now go to the Hinterlands and kill spiders around 35,64 untill one of them drops a Undamaged Venom Sac. Then bring it back to Apothecary Lydon;
  4. You will then be send to Master Gadrin in Durotar who will give you the dungeon quest.
[46D] Tiara of the Deep
Given by Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh. You need to get Tiara of the Deep from boss Hydromancer Velratha. There is a optional pre-requisite quest you can get from a mage trainer in a mayor city called [46] Tabetha's Task.
Reward items:
[47D] The Prophecy of Mosh'aru
Given by Yeh'kinya in Tanaris. For this one you need two tablets. The first Mosh'aru Tablet is droped by boss Theka the Martyr. The second Mosh'aru Tablet is droped by boss Hydromancer Velratha.
To get this quest you need to finish [44] Screecher Spirits from the same NPC. Which involves some spirit collecting in Feralas. This is also not the last quest in the chain. The last quest in the chain will send you to the Sunken Temple dungeon.
[47D] Divino-matic Rod
Given by Chief Engineer Bilgewhizzle in Tanaris. You have to take the Divino-matic Rod from Sergeant Bly inside the dungeon. For this quest you have to go through the "temple event". This event takes place at the large pyramid temple. When you get there be sure to clear entire space below the pyramid. Rest up before you head up and make sure everybody is buffed. A boss Sandfury Executioner is waiting on the top. This isn't a big fight. Kill him and loot the Executioner's Key he has. Behind him are NPC prisoners in cages. You can open those cages with the key, BUT before that be sure everyone knows what is about to happen. Be sure to have your team buffed and ready!!!!
A lot of trouble will be comming up the strairs of the pyramid once you released the prisoners. Position yourself with the tank in front and the casters behind on top the temple. Be sure to keep the fight on the top of the stairs to avoid “not in line of sight” problems with healing.
Open the cages. The humans will come out and tell you that you are being attacked. A swarm of non-elite and elite troops will run up the stairs and try to kill you. This will be a long fight and you will be oom in a matter of seconds if you try and AoE through this. So only use AoE when there are a lot of mobs and you might be a bit under pressure. Other than that try and kill the elite units first. The alliance guys are all elite and will help you fight.
Survived the first attack? Great! Hurry up and drink/eat before the 2nd round starts. Same as before just keep killing. After the second wave is defeated, The NPCs will begin walking down the stairs towards the bosses at the ground (Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz and Nekrum Gutchewer). Drink fast and follow them so you don’t loose the quest. You can sheep 1 of the bosses and then help the humans clear the remaining forces before taking him out.
Now drink and eat again. Be fast here. Talk to the little guy at the farmost left and ask him to blow open the door. He will run away and open a door. When there team is ready, talk to the commander Sergeant Bly and tell him that bilgewhizzle wants his Divino-matic Rod back. He will turn red and you then need to slay them. You can sheep 1 of them again.
If you survived then be sure everyone loots the Divino-matic Rod from the commander. Also if you are alliance you need to loot the medallion here from Nekrum Gutchewer.
Reward items:
[50D] Gahz'rilla
Given by Wizzle Brassbolts in Thousand Needles. He is at the racing track in the Shimmering Flats. This is the end boss killing quest. You need to get Gahz'rilla's Electrified Scale from Gahz'rilla. The fight itself is not so hard. BUT you have to summon Gahz'rilla with the Mallet of Zul'Farrak, so one in your party should have it. The instructions for making the Mallet can be found on an Ancient Tablet, dropped randomly by anything inside Zul'Farrak. But you don't need the instructions to create it.
To get it you need to go to the Hinterlands. In the Hinterlands, you will be going to two troll temples. First, there's the Pyramid of Zul. One of the priestesses, Qiaga the Keeper, on top of the pyramid will have an item you need: the Sacred Mallet. Take the Sacred Mallet to the very top of Jintha'Alor, a terraced troll complex at the southeastern end of Hinterlands. The place is huge, full of elites, and is in many ways a lot like Zul'Farrak itself. Trolls inside it range up to the low 50s in level. The altar you need for enchanting the Sacred Mallet is near Vile Priestess Hexx. Use the Sacred Mallet at the altar to enchant it, yielding the Mallet of Zul'Farrak.

Map

This is the map with important spots of the dungeon:

  1. Gahz'rilla
  2. Hydromancer Velratha
  3. Ruuzlu
  4. Chief Ukorz Sandscalp
  5. Sandfury Executioner
  6. Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz
  7. Nekrum Gutchewer
  8. Which Doctor Zum'rah
  9. Theka the Martyr
  10. Antu'sul
  11. Zerillis (rare spawn)

(E = Entrance)

Bosses, tactics and drops

[45-46E] Theka the Martyr
His fight is a simple one, same as fighting a standard trash mob, but with a twist. At about 25% HP he becomes immune to physical and shadow damage. However, if you stunlock him from 25-0% he will NOT become immune. The immunity buff wears off after 30 seconds. AoE damage must be avoided as the numerous scarabs surrounding him can overwhelm a party.
Get the First Mosh'aru Tablet from his body for [47D] The Prophecy of Mosh'aru.
[46-48E] Antu'sul
After you cleared the area without pulling him, have your group stay together on the same spot, then let the tank pull the boss. Six non-elite adds will spawn and run to your group which is on the same place, so area-effect spells will kill them in several seconds. As Antu'sul loses health, he will spawn more elite-basilisk adds. It is important to completely stop damage on Antu'sul and focus on the add until it is dead before you reengage Antu'sul, or you will end up fighting 3-4 adds at the same time.
Another thing to look out for is that Antu'sul drops totems frequently. Someone with a fast attack, such as a rogue, should be on totem duty.
Item drops:
[46E] Which Doctor Zum'rah
Zum'rah is friendly at first, but when you move near him he will turn hostile. The key to victory is to kill him fast as he will spawn more and more adds during the fight. There are graves all around this guy that can spawn Zombies, so watch out. Don't stand near them after engaging Zum'rah.
Best thing you can do, is open all the graves first and get rid of the Zombies. It will take some time, but it's the safest way. The first 5 or 6 graves will not spawn many Zul'Farrak Zombies, 1 or 2 max. However, if the group doesn't have time to do this, keep in mind that the zombies are fearable.
Item drops:
[46E] Sandfury Executioner
The executioner has a potent cleave attack but otherwise is not particularly dangerous. He drops the key needed for unlocking the cages behind him. When you open the cages, the "temple event" starts.
[45-46E] Nekrum Gutchewer
This guy spawns as part of the "temple event", once you release the prisoners and begin the long fight sequence, he will eventually spawn. Note that Nekrum is an undead target and can be hit with spells such as Exorcism.
[46-47E] Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz
the priest also spawns as part of the "temple event". When he spawns you should kill him fast, shadow preists always do a lot of dammage. When he's down the "temple event" will be completed or nearly completed. Keep in mind you have to do a couple of things fast when the event is finished: Talk to the little guy at the farmost left of the group of prisoners and ask him to blow open the door. He will run away and open a door. When there team is ready, talk to the commander Sergeant Bly and tell him that Bilgewhizzle wants his Divino-matic Rod back. He will turn red and you then need to slay them.
Item drops:
[46-48E] Chief Ukorz Sandscalp
The Chief is a simple boss, but you have to fight Ruuzlu in the same fight. To get to them you have to open the door to the area they are in. You can do this by talking to the little guy at the farmost left of the group of prisoners after the "temple event" and ask him to blow open the door.
First take out the two basilisks behind the wall, and take out the 4 snakes on the sides. Now have your tank hold aggro on the Chief while the rest of the group kill Ruuzlu (use your off-tank if posible). Once he's down, concentrate on the Chief.
Item drops:
[45-46E] Ruuzlu
You have to fight Ruuzlu together with Chief Ukorz Sandscalp. See the tactics above.
[46E] Hydromancer Velratha
Nothing special about this one. You will kill it while clearing the area around the pool.
Get the Seccond Mosh'aru Tablet from his body for [47D] The Prophecy of Mosh'aru. And the Tiara of the Deep for [46D] Tiara of the Deep.
[45-46E] Gahz'rilla
You need to summon this boss with the Mallet of Zul'Farrak, so one in your party should have it. If you don't know where to get it, see the description at the [50D] Gahz'rilla quest.
Before summoning it you should clear the area around the pool, as Gahz'rilla likes to toss things in the air. Other then that it's a straight forward fight.

Optional Quest in BB

I suggest we do the optional quest in Booty Bay as the follow up is in ZF and gives 8K xp.

Oops

I misunderstood the wording re. optional. It is optional and therfore not needed for the chain :)

Optional

You're right. We should do the quest chain for the XP and the gear. With "optional" i referred to the step of the preparation, so not needed in order to do the quest chain. The quest chain itself is totaly worth it.
